Catastrophe Services

Matson, Driscoll & Damico’s forensic accounting experts understand the insurance industry’s need for quick and skilled response to catastrophic events, which can result in major losses for business, especially those without disaster recovery plans.

Our worldwide strategic locations and experienced professionals allow MD&D to effectively manage a large number of claims at the regional, national and global levels, including natural disasters, terrorist acts, wars and civil conflicts.

MD&D has worked the most serious recent catastrophes, including California earthquakes and wildfires, 9/11, the Asian tsunami, hurricanes Ivan, Katrina, and Rita, the European floods and the Buncefield explosion among others.

In all cases, MD&D quickly mobilises to establish a Catastrophe (CAT) Team to secure a command centre as close to the affected area as possible. The CAT Team includes partners and staff chosen for the complexity and experience required for each assignment, and stays until the job is complete.

To help reduce the pressure and workload facing the adjuster in the wake of a catastrophe, the MD&D CAT Team provides:

  • Claims databases to track open and closed files and loss reserves
  • Assistance observing physical inventories
  • Support monitoring the progress of reconstruction projects
  • Establishment of loss accounting protocols
  • Document management and retention assistance
  • Expediting of initial loss assessments for advance payment purposes
  • Periodic status reports and final reports
  • Consulting advice on smaller claims
Additionally, our CAT Response Plan is updated on a continual basis to ensure we are reacting appropriately to our clients’ needs.  MD&D provides educational programs for clients seeking additional training in this area.
