A Visit to the Inn of the Sun…

Our restaurant review for this issue takes us to a very special setting in Napa Valley. Auberge du Soleil which, when translated, means “Inn of the Sun” is located in picturesque Rutherford, Napa Valley, California.

Created by visionary restaurateur Claude Rouas more than 20 years ago, this is definitely a place to bring someone for a very special occasion. While the property is famous for its haute cuisine, the beauty and ambiance of the inn and all it offers comes in at a very close second.

The food is outstanding, and the way they pair the expansive wine list with their menu is amazing. Your experience is further heightened by the inn’s beautiful setting overlooking Napa Valley. On pleasant evenings, reserve a table on the veranda, experience a wonderful meal with memorable wine, but – most important of all – simply kick back, relax and take in the view.

The dinner menu has a fixed price four-course offering from Executive Chef Robert Curry, which changes regularly to offer the best and freshest of the season.

Wines from the vineyards are reasonably priced. One highlight is the Terraces 2002 Zinfandel-Rutherford-Napa Valley, which comes from a vineyard just a few hundred yards from the inn.

It is refreshing to find such a special dining experience where you can enjoy great food and wine offered at a fair price. This is a must on your next trip to Napa Valley.
